Wastewater Lagoon Maintenance

Many First Nations wastewater lagoons were built over 35 years ago and require specialized maintenance to remain safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible.

We provide full-service lagoon maintenance, including:

  • Lagoon Survey Inspections
    Identify and resolve treatment issues using advanced data collection, monitor, and testing to keep systems in compliance.

  • Site Layout & Equipment Design
    Optimizing equipment placement and lagoon setup for operational efficiency and safety.

  • Lagoon Cleanouts & Sludge Removal
    Complete cleanout services with decanter centrifuge systems and secure storage tanks for efficient, environmentally safe operations.

  • Liner Replacements
    Installation of liners ranging from 6 mil to 45 mil, ensuring long-term containment and structural integrity.

Project Experience:

We have completed over 30 wastewater and wastemanure projects, including cleanouts and clay liner replacements.

When a pre-existing wastewater lagoon does not exist, L&A Wastewater Lagoon Ltd. provides end-to-end support for new lagoon builds and wastewater developments, engineered and tailored to your community’s needs.

We work collaboratively with First Nations, engineers, and project partners to plan, design, and construct wastewater lagoon systems that are safe, compliant, and built for long-term performance. From early planning through construction and commissioning, our team ensures each project meets regulatory requirements while reflecting community priorities and site-specific conditions.

Our approach helps protect groundwater, meet regulatory requirements, and extend the long-term performance of wastewater lagoon systems, while aligning with community needs and operational planning.

  • Combines 80% hands-on lagoon operations with 20% formal instruction in wastewater management databases and safety compliance.

  • Focused on safety training, equipment orientation, and career exploration in wastewater management.

  • Practical training for operating machinery used in lagoon cleanouts and liner installations.

  • Customized apprenticeship programs developed with communities to ensure long-term employment outcomes.

  • We integrate with Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) programs to expand opportunities and supports for apprentices.
